Scottie has some street cred now

Scottie Scheffler had to be arrested for the rest of the field to have a chance at the PGA Championship last weekend. Let's rewind to Thursday's opening round. Scheffler eagles the first hole and ends the day a few shots off the lead. Typical.

Friday morning chaos ensued. Golf fans woke up to Scottie Scheffler in handcuffs after a traffic incident. If you've been living under a rock, here is a quick summary: traffic getting into Valhalla was backed up due to a volunteer at the tournament being hit and killed in the early morning. Scheffler, trying to get around the traffic as tour players had been instructed to do, misunderstood instructions or possibly got caught in an ego trip. He was pulled from his PGA-marked vehicle, put in handcuffs, placed in the back of a cop car, and hauled to jail.

After being processed and doing a few stretches in a jail cell, he headed back to the course to try and make his tee time. Which he did, and in typical Scheffler fashion, he played well and remained in striking distance of the lead.

After Scottie finished his round, he categorized the situation as chaotic and a misunderstanding of instructions. From my interpretation, Scottie was doing what he was told to do or thought he was told to do, didn't recognize a cop was right in his window, and the cops didn't know who Scottie was, causing the situation to escalate quickly.

Scottie handled this with class, thanking the police and acknowledging the man who unfortunately lost his life. Anyone who is giving Scottie shit, saying he is above the law, doesn't watch golf and doesn't understand who Scottie Scheffler is.

One of the craziest stories you will hear did give the internet a chance to shine with some unbeatable memes coming from this. Scottie finished tied for 8th, giving other players a taste of victory for once.

Scheffler does have a court date looming and we will wait and see what happens many are expecting the charges to be dropped which are pretty serious one being a felony second degree assault on a cop and reckless driving.
